Harry McNab (1/3rd Aura) awakes around 1 a.m. in a padded room, straightjacketed. He eventually wriggles free and searches the room. He digs into a mattress on the floor, finding a book on insects and shredded pages from an old Big City Times. McNab dozes off, waking the next morning in his own bed.
At a similarly early hour in Furies headquarters, Isaac sees a glowing yellow apparation in the monitor room, apparently interacting with the main computer console. It flickers and disappears as Isaac cuts power to the console, and Seeker and other Furies barrel into the room. Talisman, Seeker and Miss America are put to sleep as they attempt to break into Wizard's lab to determine if the apparition originated there.
Wednesday
Shocker, Seeker, Miss America and Whiz Kid crash a bank robbery, finding 4 gunman and a costumed man and woman inside, with patrons and employees eating floor. Shocker tells the heroes to take 'em down, and they charge in. The pair, teen vigilantes Crash & Burn, cause the heroes to change their priorities when Burn serves up a gunman extra-crispy style. Despite a firefight inside the bank, with Shocker winging lightning by Burn's head and Crash firing a semiautomatic rifle, no one else is injured. The robbers are given to police while Crash & Burn, claiming Big City now belongs to a new generation, depart.
Thursday
Hitchhiker visits a hero-packed Furies, seeking Shocker and panicking those old enough to remember his visit a decade ago. Isaac restrains a ballistic Icestar - upset Hitchhiker once tried to kill Phoenix - and gets help from Ivy's razor sharp Wall of Death, er- Thorns. Shocker's masterful attempt to lure Hitchhiker unaware into the Danger Room by claiming it's his new "office" somehow fails, and Hitchhiker finally delivers his message: People will soon come for Phoenix bearing olive branches, but are not friends.
Captain Wonder's memorial service is held in Big City Park. Tens of thousands attend, heroes, villains and civilians alike. The Blue Knights, Big City policemen in power-armor are there, but are not called upon. Although Wonder's body remains tucked away at STELLAR Labs, the public believes his body is in the coffin carried by Grey Arrow, Shocker, Cyclone, Sub-Micronian, Miss America and B.C. Williams.
B.C. gives the eulogy, paraphrasing W.H. Auden's "Funeral Blues." The service proceeds quietly, minus an exchange of unpleasantries between the old-guard Furies' Shocker and the super-gang Furies' Snowstorm.
Harry McNab, watching the service on TV in a break room at work, finds himself watching a TV in a mental hospital rec room. He breaks out of the restraints holding him to the chair, but is restrained by burly orderlies and tossed back into his room.
Friday
Promoter Lincoln Flair drops by, proposing a classic Furies v. super-gang Furies sporting competion on Pay-Per-View. Shocker puts the issue to general discussion, and hears "no" said 23 times by Seeker.
Giant
gorilla rampages downtown Big City, terrorizes populace!! OK, the gorilla
was only 20' tall, and he wasn't rampaging so much standing in the middle
of the street. And bystanders were more curious than scared. But Furies
responded anyway, with Seeker swooping in and SLAMMING
Donkey Kong 50' under the asphalt. When
Miss America grabbed the startled ape, it changed into her, then Seeker.
Kong eventually grabbed a hostage, bartering to leave the area unmolested.
As for the white-haired guy who showed up looking for Kong, he wandered
off during the confusion.
