STARCROSS

        CHEYENNE II

Given the need for a secure operational headquarters for U.S. Strategic Forces, and knowing that the NORAD facility at Cheyenne Mountain was doomed in the event of a nuclear war (or worse), the go-ahead was given in 1990 to build a replacement headquarters. The new facility, incorporating the latest technological advancements, was close (but not *too* close) to the Cheyenne site and was dubbed "Cheyenne II" for security reasons.

An additional benefit of the new facility was that it, as secret as it was, was also able to act as a "cover" site for an even more tightly-guarded secret, that of Project STARCROSS' headquarters. Located in the four lowest levels of Cheyenne II, Project STARCROSS continues its vital mission.
